Description
The Juniper Networks SCBE2-MX-S is an enhanced Switch Control Board (SCB) designed for high-performance operation within Juniper MX Series routers, including MX240, MX480, and MX960 platforms. It serves as a critical component of the system architecture. Additionally, the SCBE2-MX-S integrates both control plane functionality and switching fabric capabilities. In doing so, it enables scalable, high-capacity data processing for carrier-grade networks.
Built to support demanding service provider and enterprise environments, the SCBE2-MX-S delivers up to 480 Gbps per slot in non-redundant configurations. In redundant fabric deployments, it delivers up to 340 Gbps, ensuring flexible performance scaling based on network design requirements.
The module incorporates a centralized Stratum 3 clocking system, providing precise timing and synchronization essential for carrier Ethernet and mobile backhaul applications. It also supports external timing inputs such as BITS, GPS, and UTI through the EXT CLK interface. Thus, it allows seamless integration into timing-sensitive network infrastructures.
Powered by Junos OS (Release 13.3R1 and later), the SCBE2-MX-S supports advanced high-availability features including Graceful Routing Engine Switchover (GRES), Nonstop Routing (NSR), and Nonstop Bridging (NSB). This ensures minimal disruption during failover events. The board is hot-swappable, enabling maintenance or upgrades without service interruption. Furthermore, it supports redundant configurations (1+1 or 2+1 depending on chassis) for maximum uptime.
The SCBE2-MX-S also improves fabric performance through the use of Juniper’s XF2 fabric chipset. It supports high-capacity line cards and modern network services. With integrated Ethernet control ports (1GbE/10GbE SFP+) and secure control-plane access, it enhances operational flexibility while maintaining robust security.
As a spare (“-S”) unit, this model is ideal for replacement, expansion, or redundancy planning within existing MX deployments.
