48S means 48 Gigabit Ethernet SFP access ports; E means Network Essentials. Choose this model for fibre access, campus distribution or inter-building links. Its SFP access ports do not supply PoE.
| Item | C9300-48S-E | Selection guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Access | 48 × 1G SFP | Fibre access and distribution |
| Uplinks | Modular network module | Select a compatible module separately |
| PoE | Not on SFP ports | Use a 48P model for powered devices |
| Software | Network Essentials | Use Advantage when the required IOS XE features are outside Essentials |
Choose 48S for SFP fibre. Choose 48P for copper Gigabit Ethernet with PoE+ for phones, wireless access points and cameras. Confirm fibre type, distance, wavelength and Cisco optic compatibility before ordering.
Do not assume they are. Add the required compatible SFPs to the bill of materials.
E is Network Essentials; A is Network Advantage. Confirm the exact IOS XE feature matrix and subscription requirements for the intended release.
Confirm the switch, licence and term, power supplies, uplink module, optics, stack accessories, rack kit and support entitlement.
See the Cisco switch guide, Catalyst 9300 category and all Cisco switches.
The Cisco Catalyst C9300-48S-E provides 48 SFP-based Gigabit Ethernet ports with the Network Essentials software tier. It is commonly evaluated for fibre-heavy campus access, building aggregation and migration from older Catalyst fibre switches.
| Specification area | Buyer guidance |
|---|---|
| Port density | 48 SFP access interfaces; optics are selected according to fibre type and distance. |
| Licence tier | Network Essentials with the applicable Cisco DNA subscription requirement. |
| Uplinks | Select a supported Catalyst 9300 network module for the intended uplink speeds. |
| Resiliency | Plan StackWise, StackPower and redundant power components as separate BOM items. |
| Management | Confirm IOS XE release, monitoring, automation and support requirements. |
Specify multimode or single-mode fibre, connector type, link distance and the far-end interface before choosing optics. Cisco transceiver support can depend on the switch hardware and IOS XE release. Include patch leads, fibre trays and cleaning/testing requirements where relevant.
C9300-48S-E offers twice the SFP access-port count but uses Network Essentials. C9300-24S-A provides 24 SFP ports with the Network Advantage tier. The correct choice depends on port density and feature requirements; the suffix is not merely a support-level difference.
When replacing an older Catalyst fibre switch, document every existing optic, uplink, VLAN, routing function, stack member and power connection. Confirm whether existing transceivers remain supported and create a staged cutover plan with configuration backup and rollback steps.
No. Treat transceivers as separate components unless specifically bundled in the quotation.
It identifies the Network Essentials software tier for this ordering configuration.
The platform uses supported network modules, allowing the BOM to be matched to the required uplink speed and density.
Its access interfaces are SFP fibre ports. Copper endpoint and PoE requirements usually call for a different Catalyst 9300 model.
Include switch hardware, DNA subscription, support, uplink module, optics, stack cables, power supplies, cords and rack accessories.
For UAE and Middle East procurement, Gear Net Technologies can validate the full Cisco Catalyst fibre-switch bill of materials. See the C9300-24S-A datasheet for the 24-port Network Advantage alternative.
