Overview
Huawei NE40E Series Service Router Software and Licenses enable advanced routing, security, virtualization, traffic engineering, and service management capabilities on Huawei NetEngine 40E Series routers. Rather than replacing hardware, software licenses activate enterprise and carrier-grade features that allow organizations to expand network functionality as business requirements evolve. Huawei offers both perpetual and capacity-based licenses for services such as VPN, MPLS, Segment Routing, VXLAN, IPsec, QoS, and bandwidth expansion.
The Huawei NetEngine 40E Series is designed for deployment at the edge of IP backbone networks, metropolitan area networks (MANs), enterprise WANs, Internet data centers (IDCs), and service provider infrastructures. Powered by Huawei’s Versatile Routing Platform (VRP), the NE40E delivers carrier-class performance, high availability, and flexible service deployment while supporting software-based feature activation through licensing.
Selecting the appropriate software license depends on network size, routing requirements, bandwidth, security policies, and future expansion plans. Why Choose Huawei NE40E Software Licenses?
Huawei software licensing enables organizations to unlock additional routing, security, VPN, virtualization, and bandwidth capabilities as network requirements evolve. Instead of replacing existing routers, administrators can activate licensed features to expand functionality while maintaining operational continuity.
This flexible licensing approach supports enterprise networks, telecommunications providers, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale WAN deployments by allowing businesses to invest only in the features they require. Huawei also provides licenses for capabilities such as VXLAN, IPsec, virtual clustering, Ethernet performance testing, bandwidth expansion, and MAP functionality, depending on the router model.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Huawei NE40E Series Service Router Software License?
It is a software license that enables advanced routing, security, VPN, bandwidth, virtualization, and service features on Huawei NE40E Series routers.
Why do I need a software license?
Certain enterprise and carrier-grade features require activation through software licensing. This allows organizations to deploy only the capabilities they need while maintaining hardware flexibility.
What features can be activated?
Depending on the router model and software version, licenses can enable MPLS, L2VPN, L3VPN, VXLAN, EVPN, Segment Routing, IPsec, QoS, NetStream, bandwidth expansion, and virtual clustering.
Can I upgrade my router without replacing the hardware?
Yes. Many advanced capabilities can be enabled through software licenses instead of installing new hardware, provided the hardware platform supports those features.
Are licenses transferable?
License transfer policies vary depending on Huawei licensing terms, software versions, and deployment models.
Which industries commonly deploy NE40E routers?
NE40E routers are widely deployed by telecommunications providers, government agencies, financial institutions, cloud service providers, data centres, and large enterprises.
Does the NE40E support IPv6?
Yes. Huawei NE40E routers provide comprehensive IPv4 and IPv6 support, including migration and coexistence capabilities.
Is the NE40E suitable for carrier networks?
Yes. The NE40E Series is designed for carrier-grade routing with high-performance forwarding, MPLS services, VPN technologies, QoS, and large-scale network deployments.
