The Fortinet Security Fabric can combine FortiGate security policy with FortiSwitch access, FortiAP wireless and FortiNAC device visibility and control. A successful design still requires model-level checks for capacity, licences, PoE, uplinks, radio coverage and third-party infrastructure.

FortiNAC

Provides device visibility and network access-control workflows. Define discovery, profiling, authentication, isolation and guest/IoT use cases.

FortiSwitch

Secure access switching for users, phones, cameras and access points. Size ports, PoE, uplinks, stacking and management mode.

FortiAP

Managed wireless access points for indoor, outdoor and higher-density environments. Select from coverage, capacity, antenna and mounting needs.

Legacy FortiAP searches: Models such as FortiAP 221E and 421E should be checked for lifecycle and current support. A newer AP is not automatically a drop-in replacement; validate coverage, controller compatibility, PoE and mounting.

FortiNAC can support multivendor environments, but the exact device, software and enforcement capabilities must be verified against the required workflow.

Can FortiAP be managed by FortiGate?

Many designs use FortiGate-based wireless management. Confirm AP model, FortiOS support, scale, licensing and the chosen architecture.

How should PoE be calculated?

Total the maximum expected load by device class, then validate the switch power supplies, available PoE budget and redundancy with growth allowance.
