The Cisco FPR1140-NGFW-K9 is a 1RU Cisco Firepower 1140 next-generation firewall (NGFW) appliance with 8 RJ45 and 4 SFP interfaces. It is intended for small offices, home offices, remote branch offices and Internet-edge deployments that require threat-focused network security.

The appliance runs Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD). Its NGFW throughput and next-generation intrusion prevention system (NGIPS) throughput are both rated at 2.2 Gbps. NGIPS is a security function for intrusion prevention, while application visibility and control (AVC) identifies and controls applications, geolocations, users and websites.

For deployments using AVC, the Cisco FPR1140-NGFW-K9 supports up to 400,000 concurrent sessions and 22,000 new connections per second. TLS throughput is rated at 1 Gbps, and IPsec VPN throughput is rated at 1.2 Gbps using 1024B TCP with Fastpath. The platform supports up to 400 VPN peers.

Local management is available through Cisco Firepower Device Manager. Centralized configuration, logging, monitoring and reporting can be performed through Management Center or Cisco Defense Orchestrator. The appliance also has one dedicated 10M/100M/1GBASE-T Ethernet management port, an RJ-45 console port and one USB 3.0 Type-A port.
