Description

The Juniper QFX5100 Ethernet Switch Series is a family of high-performance, low-latency fixed-configuration switches designed for data center top-of-rack (ToR), aggregation, and spine-leaf architectures. Running on Juniper’s Junos OS, the QFX5100 series delivers advanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking capabilities, automation support, and scalable fabric architectures for modern cloud and enterprise environments.

The series includes multiple models with flexible interface configurations, such as SFP+ (1/10 GbE), SFP28 (10/25 GbE), QSFP+ (40 GbE), and QSFP28 (100 GbE), enabling organizations to scale bandwidth as network demands grow. Depending on the model, switches can deliver up to 1.44 Tbps or higher switching capacity, combined with ultra-low latency for performance-sensitive applications.

The QFX5100 supports advanced data center technologies including Virtual Chassis, Virtual Chassis Fabric (VCF), QFabric integration, and spine-leaf EVPN-VXLAN architectures, making it suitable for highly scalable and automated environments. Built-in telemetry, automation tools (NETCONF, Ansible, Python), and Junos programmability enable efficient network operations and orchestration.

With redundant power supplies, hot-swappable fan modules, and flexible airflow options (front-to-back or back-to-front), the QFX5100 ensures high availability and adaptability to different rack designs. Though widely deployed, the QFX5100 series is considered a mature platform and is often succeeded by newer models like the QFX5120 in modern designs.
